One step at a time

What is it about running that gets people so addicted? Is it chasing personal bests? Reaching new goals? The idea of overcoming something?

Truth is, we all have our own reasons. Running for some, is therapy. For others, it's labouring and difficult. Thing is however, that you almost always feel good after a run where you feel you accomplished something. The difficulties faced, are faced by all. Tired legs, a mind that tells the body it is tired, thirst and sometimes the desire to stop. The only way to keep moving forward, is to keep telling yourself to take another step. " You don't eat an elephant by consuming the whole thing, you eat one spoon at a time." Often, we look at a race or a run as, look how far they go. Experienced runners will tell you how different your body can feel from one kilometer to the next. It's all about the mind they say.

The reality is that life is the same. God prepares us for our challenges as a runner would prepare for a race - he promised to never give us more than we can handle - and then we have to take it one day at time, one challenge at a time. They say, "life is not defined by a moment, neither does a moment last a lifetime. However, a lifetime is made by many moments put together.

Take just one step at a time. Focus on the moments you are in, while you are in them, because one day, you could look back at that moment as a turning point in your life. Remember, you do not know what you will feel like in the next part of your race, but you do know what you feel like now. If you are struggling, push through, there are easier times ahead. If you are in a good space, enjoy it, because you do not know when that will turn. That being said, remember to breathe and enjoy your surroundings too. Some of the best runs, are the best, simply because of their location.
